The Ministry for Science and Innovation, which carries on the work of the old Ministry for Education and Science, firmly supports the promotion of research and development of innovation through different programmes, providing the research centres with the necessary resources for developing their work.

Within the different plans, the Research group DTCENS has developed a three year project (2007-2009), and they are currently in the process of evaluating a project for the three year period 2010-2012.

In April 2005 the Governing Council approved the IV Regional Plan for Scientific Investigation and Technological Innovation (IV PRICIT) for the period 2005-2008, which responds to the commitment of the regional government to make research, science and technology available to the public.

In the framework of this plan we have obtained financing for various projects, directly linked to the consolidation and improvement of the research group itself.

IMSERSO (entity in charge of social security for the management of complementary social services to benefits of the Social Security System, and related to older people and those in a situation of dependency), aware of the problems that come hand in hand with the aging of the active population, has been promoting studies of scientific investigation, development, and technological innovation related to people of mature age, not only from a medical perspective, but also social, economic and legal.

Our research project entitled "Principio de Igualdad, Trabajadores Maduros y Condiciones de Trabajo (en Especial Acceso al Empleo y Extinción)" is included in this framework

This is a tripartite collegiate body, in which the central administration of the state, trade union organisations and the most representative business associations are represented, who take autonomous action in their roles, although, from an organic point of view, this is appointed by the Labour Department, of the Ministry for Work and Immigration. Amongst the functions that it has provided are: the resolution of consultations, which are not linked, on the functional side of bargains; the issuance of dictums in cases of administrative extension of the provisions of a collective bargain in force to a number of businesses and workers, or to a sector or subsector of activity; a role as an observer of collective bargaining (information, study, documentation, and diffusion of collective bargaining); etc.

La Dirección General de Trabajo y Empleo de Cantabria es un organismo dependiente de la Consejería de Empleo y Bienestar Social que tiene atribuidas las competencias en materia de relaciones laborales, tanto individuales como colectivas, y de condiciones de trabajo; mediación, arbitraje y conciliación, así como la potenciación del dialogo social. Asimismo, y sin perjuicio de la necesaria coordinación que ha de mantener con otros centros directivos, es competente en la resolución de expedientes de regulación de empleo en los términos en la legislación vigente. Del mismo modo, a través de la Subdirección General de Seguridad y Salud Laboral, tiene funciones de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales, seguridad y salud laboral, de modo que entre sus objetivos se encuentra el promover la cultura preventiva y la realización de las acciones que, combatiendo la siniestralidad laboral, garanticen la salud de los trabajadores. Finalmente, proporciona información en materia laboral tanto al conjunto de la ciudadanía como, particularmente, a la pequeña y mediana empresa.
