Activities

The most prestigious analysts of today's economy agree that people are the main source of durable competitive advantage in developed countries, for both businesses and society in general. We begin, however, with some management patterns and a regulatory framework which were not exactly designed for this new situation. The need to provide effective solutions for the difficulties caused by these problems was the motive for creating the research group Labour Law, Economic Changes and New Society (DTCENS).

The group DTCENS, led by Professor Jesús R. Mercader Uguina, offers solutions which are both innovative and pragmatic for the new competitive and social challenges produced by a world of work and labour relations that is currently being transformed. Amongst these challenges, we highlight three that have been the object of exhaustive analysis by the group:

    • New developments in information technology make it necessary for us to rethink the organisation of work;

    • The incorporation of women in the labour market, immigration, and the new attitudes and ambitions of today's young people result in cultural changes that present key  opportunities at the same time as requiring effective solutions from organisations and administrations;

    • Ever-increasing competition encourages the adaptation of new organisation structures in business and corporate government which do not always marry well with the traditional mechanisms of regulation in the labour market.

The services of DTCENS are an essential strategic tool for successfully implementing labour policies which are suitable for today's world: the group considers the scientific knowledge of labour law to be a service to society. As a result, we consider the practical application and transmission of knowledge to society an essential complement to general research tasks. In this context, we have carried out many informative and applicable activities, which are extremely useful in the field of business and labour practice and which have results that are both specific to certain sectors or businesses, and generic on aspects which are especially relevant in the field of social law.

Broadly speaking, in terms of applied action taken by the group we highlight the training and circulation activities, through which we transmit knowledge and conclusions obtained as a result of general investigations, and in which we are assisted by experts from different fields. In addition, we perform consultancy and advice activities, through which we respond to specific demands of all kinds from public and private entities.
